Busy Guy

In the weeks since Christmas Colby has kept very busy as always. Even though the cold he had was short, the regression of his sleeping habits continues. Recently he has slept through the night on a few occasions, so there is progress. He also has gotten much better about going to sleep himself at nap time. On one occasion he even fell asleep on his own in his crib without crying - the Holy Grail his mother has spent thousands of hours pursuing!

This past weekend Colby tried skiing for the first time (on his front lawn, but there were skis involved!). He had been excited about the skis, and I think that I (his Dad) was a little too aggressive with him and he was scared. We'll try to ease him back into it soon after watching his parents ski a little. Afterwards he was even afraid to sled, so we have some work to do there.

Also this past weekend Colby used the potty the first time for some poop! We have not pushed him hard to use the potty, preferring that he ease into it. So we ask him sometimes if he wants to use the potty, especially around the time that we're changing his diaper anyway. At one point this weekend he agreed to use the potty, and it was not clear that anything had happened until he stood up. He was a little confused, but definitely proud and immediately went to the business of dumping his business in the toilet.

Colby's Dad got a Kindle for Christmas and found a nice app that includes lots of kids books. They're all full color and work really well - maybe TOO well. One night Dad decided to ask Colby if he wanted to read his night time books on the Kindle that night, and now Colby insists on the Kindle day and night like he's addicted and needs toddler Kindle rehab. The books are pretty good and many are interesting West African takes on tales we know (Cinderella, Tortoise and the Hare) so we're going with it for now.

Finally, Colby never stops moving. Somehow I'm sure he's moving in his head while he sleeps, and thus the poor sleeping. The rest of the time he is literally moving, shaking, curling, twisting, jumping, running and always being the happy boy we had hoped for. In the few pictures below you'll see his short try at skiing, our attempt to distract him after with sledding, a Kindle reading, and a few cute new random videos.
